He is wheelchair bound, but also bound behind bars. Simon is inextricably linked to his own horror and trauma. Real Simon is trying one last time to fight off his demons, he tries to kill book Simon in an attempt to disassociate from his suffering. The boss is as straightforward as it can be in terms of symbolism. And then the elevator takes him down, representing his final descent into madness and Hell. Literally taunting you, saying "look at what you did." I want to point out that you literally traverse up to an elevator, representing Simon ascending into his consciousness. The final platforming section is a series of diaries that literally have "Suicide" written all over in blood. You killed yourself, there is only one place you can go now." And the lead up to that place is simply majestic. The level is saying "no, you don't get to run away anymore Simon. Almost as if the level itself is actively fighting your will to stay alive. The tunnels you run through twist and warp.

The level itself has multiple bodies that aren't even attacking you, they're already dead. Through those words you hear Simon whimpering and 'crying in fear' as he fully embraces his suicidal tendency. The soundtrack literally has Simon screaming words like. Simon is dead and book Simon, the remaining remnant of who Simon was and all his experiences (almost like Simon's ghost) is now left in a state of existential limbo.īook Simon is literally traversing the final moments playing out in Simon's head. If you check the tape recorder after saving, the name of the save point quite literally says "Dead." It's just straight to the point. "My life ends here" is quite a title for the last zone for the suicide route. I like it because the level that leads up into is phenomenal. Not necessarily because I like the ending of Simon killing himself, it's actually depressing.

As messed up as this sounds, I like any variation of the suicide endings.
